Floppy Disk Drive Troubleshooting
This section describes how to determine if the FDD is functioning properly. Perform the steps
below starting with Procedure 1. Continue with the other procedures as instructed.

FDD Head Cleaning Check
Cleaning the FDD head is an option available in the Diagnostic Program. Detailed procedures
for perfoming this check are provided in
Chapter 3

Insert the Diagnostics disk in the computer’s floppy disk drive, turn on the computer, and run
the test. If the test program cannot be run, go to Procedure 3.
Once the diagnostic test has been run, clean the FDD heads using the cleaning kit. If the FDD
does still not function properly after cleaning, go to Procedure 3.

Diagnostic Test Program Execution Check
Insert the Diagnostics disk in the FDD, turn on the computer, and run the test. For detailed
diagnostics test procedures, refer to

Floppy disk drive test error codes and their status names are shown in Table 2-5. Make sure
that the floppy disk in the FDD is formatted correctly and that the write protect tab is disabled.
If any other errors occur while executing the FDD diagnostics test, go to Check 1.
