Amethyst III DTV Smart Switch

User Manual

IP traffic 
forwarding

By default, the traffic that arrives on a Gigabit Ethernet 
interface is not forwarded to another interface.

Some ARP rules may be activated because filtering ARP 
may block all the unicast traffic (the corresponding 
forwarding rule is that all ARP datagrams coming from an 
interface are sent to all the other Gigabit Ethernet 
interfaces)

Or other forwarding rules may be activated in order to 
indicate that IP datagrams shall be forwarded to another 
interface. A forwarding rule is configured as follows:

Fail-over

There is no specific processing for fragmented datagrams, 
so the forwarding rule may not correctly operate in this 
case. Therefore a fragmented stream may be partially sent 
to the destination interface.

T2-MI

ASI seamless switching supported on THOMSON 
NetProcessor T2-MI gateways (v04.70 and following)

ASI input bit rate: from 20Mbps to 80 Mbps

Maximum number of PLP per T2-MI PID: 32

The stuffing level in the stream shall be reasonable 
(the T2-MI PID bit rate shall be above 50% of the 
global TS bit rate)

The PIDs embedding T2-MI packets shall be identical 
on both streams.

The seamless switching is guaranteed on the T2-MI 
layer. When a switch occurs, CC on the T2-MI PID is 
preserved.

 a 

IPv4 options present in the IP header are not processed, but they are not 

discarded and can then be processed as any other device when the datagram 
is forwarded to the output, whether IP masquerading is enabled or not.
