GLOSSARY
WHAT
DOES IT MEAN?
Progressive Scan
Each frame of a video image is scanned complete, from top to bottom, not interlaced. For example, 480p
means that each image frame is made of 480 horizontal lines drawn vertically. Computer images are all
progressively scanned. Requires more bandwidth (twice as much vertical information) and a faster horizontal
scan frequency than interlaced images of the same resolution. The result of this system is a cleaner, better
quality image with much less flicker.
RF
Radio Frequency.
Television signals are modulated onto RF signals and are then demodulated by your
television's tuner.
VCRs and
DBS receivers often include channel 3 or 4 modulators, allowing the output
signal to be tuned by the television on those channels.
Also, laser discs use an RF signal for modulating
Dolby
Digital 5.1 soundtracks on some movies.
This requires an RF demodulator (usually referred to as an
AC3-RF demodulator) before or in the surround processor to decode the signal.
Surround
A system for creating realistic three-dimensional sound fields full of realism by arranging multiple speakers
around the listener.
SAP
Secondary
Audio Program
Some
TV programmes broadcast an additional audio signal next to their normal stereo audio signal. In most
cases this means that an additional language is available. For example, if a programme is available in
English and Spanish, Spanish can be broadcast as the additional audio program.
SShowView
SHOWVIEW is used in Continental Europe while it is commonly refered to as G-CODE here in
Australia. Both G-CODE and SHOWVIEW are trademarks and both represent a simple easy recording
feature. For simplicity this manual will only refer to SHOWVIEW. For G-CODE simply follow the same
instructions.
The ShowView number is a one-to-nine digit combination of numbers that simplifies the process of
setting
up the timer on your video recorder.
The ShowView numbers are generated by an algorithm
that translates
the very basic parameters involved in any recording process (Date, Channel number,
Start time and End time
of the programme) into a unique combination of numbers. Once these
numbers are entered into your video
recorder by your remote control, the recording timer of the video
gets activated.
VPS
Video Program System.
Video Programming System (VPS) and Program
Delivery Control (PDC) are some of a various data services,
sent within the vertical blanking interval of television broadcast.
Y Pb Pr
A signal that's recorded or transmitted in its separate components. It consists of three 75-ohm channels:
one for luminance information, and two for color. Compared with an S-video signal, a
Y/ Pb/Pr signal carries
more colour detail.
