The advantage is that the clients always enter the VoIPBox’s
address as DNS server address, so that no public DNS server
address is required. The VoIPBox functions in this scenario as
a router.
Of course, the DNS server’s address can also be transmitted
to the clients using the integrated DHCP server. If the VoIPBox
is used as a DSL router or if it sets up a dial-up connection, no
entry is required in the
pabx.cfg
for the parameter
NameServer
. The DNS server’s address that is negotiated
through this connection will be used.
6.6 ipupdate - DynDNS client
This function allows you to assign a defined hostname to an
IP address that changes dynamically. That means that you can
always reach a device or service through the public IP net-
work, even if, for example, it is a common DSL connection
with dynamic IP address allocation. Several providers support
this service.
