Appendix B: Performance Verification
The Verification procedures in the this section are done with the covers on. The
procedures are used to verify the operation of the VM700T Video Measurement
and to determine if there is a need for readjustment. Performance of the Video
Measurement Set to published specifications for measurement accuracy is
verified by other methods during a factory calibration.
Self Diagnostics
The measurement set is configured at the factory to bypass the diagnostics at
power on to provide a quicker startup. Refer to
Setting the Power Up Mode
on
page 1--9 if you want to change the configuration to run the diagnostics at power
on. The diagnostic routines of the measurement set check the operation of the
digital hardware. Passing the diagnostics is part of the performance verification
procedure. Use the following procedure to force an auto reset. All the diagnostics
then run at power on regardless of the power-on diagnostic configuration.
1. Turn off the measurement set.

Hold down the
Menu
button and use the front panel STBY/ON switch to
power on the instrument.
3. After the instrument beeps twice, release the Menu button. The measure-
ment set displays the VM700T Startup Menu.

In the menu, use the control knob to select R ... INSTRUMENT RUN
MODES, and press the
Select Line button. A second diagnostic menu is
then displayed.
5.
In this menu, select A ... AUTO RESET, and press the
Select Line
button.
This runs the full set of internal diagnostics. Check that all tests pass as they
run.
After the diagnostics complete, the measurement set should initialize in the
Waveform mode.
Check that all tests pass as they run. If a test fails, refer to the VM700T Video

for further actions you can take to determine
which board or boards may be at fault.
To check for soft errors (possible intermittent operation), enter the Configure
files and set the Diagnostic Selection file to run all diagnostics. If you see a
Diagnostic Errors file, either use the Delete soft key to erase it (if it is not
needed), or check it for the last error saved and note its time for reference. Select
Measure mode by pressing the Measure hard key, and set the diagnostics to loop
continuously (DiagsLoop).
