ADJUST THE SERVICE
BRAKES
The brake system is automatically adjusted. A low brake
pedal or lack of braking power could be caused by:
•
Brake fluid level low in the master cylinder. See
Check the Master Cylinder Fluid
section.
•
Air in the brake lines. See
Bleed the Brakes
section.
•
Worn brake pads or shoes. See
Inspect the
Service Brake
section.
Worn brake rotors or drums. See
Inspect the
Service Brake
section.
•
Mechanical defect in the rear brake auto adjust
mechanism.
•
Binding brake pedal linkage.
If you are experiencing a low brake pedal or lack of
braking power, the entire brake system should be
inspected.
6. Release the park brake.
7. Inspect the brake shoes. The parking brake shoes
are the same as the service brake shoes. Refer to
Inspect the Service Brake
section to inspect the
brake shoes.
8. Inspect all brake cables and linkages for any signs
of damage or missing cotter pins.
9. Inspect the park brake handle locking mechanism
for any signs of damage or wear.
10. Set the park brake.
11. Reconnect the main positive and negative cables
at the batteries.

1. Make sure the key-switch is in the “OFF”
position, then remove the key.
