• Place the motorcycle on the side-stand.
• Loosen or tighten both chain adjusters

until the chain has
35 – 40 mm (1.4 – 1.6 in) of slack at the middle of the chain
between the engine and rear sprockets as shown. The refer-
ence marks

must be at the same position on the scale to
ensure that the front and rear wheels are correctly aligned.

Drive chain slack: 35 – 45 mm (1.4 – 1.8 in)
• After adjusting the drive chain, tighten the rear axle nut

to
the specified torque.

Rear axle nut: 45 N·m (4.5 kgf-m, 32.5 lb-ft)
• Recheck the chain slack after tightening the axle nut and
readjust if necessary.
• Tighten both chain adjusters

securely.
• Install the new cotter pin.
CLEANING AND LUBRICATING
• Clean the drive chain with kerosine. If the drive chain tends to
rust quickly, the intervals must be shortened.
• After cleaning and drying the chain, oil it with a heavy-weight
engine oil.

The drive chain joint clip should be attached in the
way that the slit end will face opposite to the direction
of travel.
