MATERIAL HANDLING
LOADING MATERIAL
The information within this section will walk you through the process of loading material to the model and
support heads. As you complete the required steps, be sure to observe the status information displayed on the
touchscreen.
The Material Spool Preparation section describes the steps necessary to prepare a material spool for insertion
into a material bay, and highlights the components of the material spool. Once a material spool has been
prepared for use, the steps within the Material Spool Installation section will guide you through the process of
installing a material spool and loading material to the head.
The F270 and F370 utilize four material bays - two model and two support, while the F170 utilizes two material
bays - one model and one support. In order to build, at least one model and one support spool must be installed.
If you know that a job will require more material than what is available on a single spool, you can install a second
model and/or support spool into the corresponding vacant material bay in order to utilize the auto changeover
feature, as applicable. However, it is recommended that you properly store spools that are not in use in order to
safeguard against moisture exposure.
MATERIAL SPOOL PREPARATION
The process for preparing a new, unopened material spool varies slightly from the process for preparing a
previously used material spool. When preparing a new (unopened) spool you will first need to remove the spool
from its Stratasys packaging. When preparing a previously opened spool you will need to remove the spool from
its storage bag. Once removed, pull the tail end of the spool’s filament out of the filament tail capture location.
Inspect the filament tail to ensure filament is not bent. If bent, cut the filament tail flush (using the 5” cutter
included in the Welcome Kit). Refer to the following figure for material spool details.
Note:
Loading material can only be done when the printer is stopped (idle) and
is not building.
