Before Use
WARNING:
Ensure the tool is disconnected from the power supply before attaching or changing
any accessories, or making any adjustments.
Dust extraction
WARNING:
Always connect the wall chaser to a suitable vacuum cleaner or workshop dust
extraction system if the cutting dust contains harmful substances, such as particles from old paint,
varnish, surface coatings, etc. Always dispose of harmful dust according to laws and regulations.
WARNING:
Take special care to guard against harmful and toxic dusts when cutting lead-based
painted surfaces, woods and masonry, particularly if you are unsure about the exact substances
involved. All persons entering the work area must wear a mask specially designed for protection
against the toxic dust and fumes involved. Children and pregnant women MUST NOT enter the work
area. DO NOT eat, drink or smoke in the work area.
IMPORTANT:
It is essential to take proper measures to prevent dust entering the motor and other
internal mechanisms of this tool. Failure to do so may seriously reduce the life and performance
of this tool.
1. Connect the tool to a vacuum cleaner, or dust extraction system, using the Dust Extraction Port
(15)
2. Turn the vacuum cleaner or dust extraction system on before you begin operating the tool
• This will significantly reduce the dust in the air around the work area
Note:
A Dust Extraction Port Adaptor (24) is supplied for added vacuum/dust extraction tool
compatibility.
Setting the cutting width
WARNING:
Always wear protective gloves when handling cutting discs.
Note:
See ‘Specification’ for the configurable cutting widths (Fig. IV).
1. Use a 6mm Hex Key (not supplied) to undo the Cutting Disc Guard Retaining Screws (6). Remove
and set aside, taking care not to lose the washers (Fig. I)
2. Unscrew and remove the Depth Lock (8) and washer and remove the Cutting Disc
Guard (14) (Fig. I)
3. Lower and remove the Base Plate (11) (Fig. II)
4. With the Cutting Guard and Base Plate removed, the Spindle (8) and Cutting Discs (12 & 13) (if
fitted) are now accessible
5. Press and hold the Spindle Lock Button (16) and rotate the Spindle using the Pin Spanner (25) to
engage the spindle lock (Fig. III)
6. Maintain pressure on the Spindle Lock Button when Spindle is locked and use the Pin Spanner to
unscrew the Outer Flange (9) by rotating the Outer Flange clockwise
7. Carefully remove the Outer Flange, Outer Disc (12) and Spacers (19 & 20)
8. Arrange the Spacers and Outer Disc on the Spindle as necessary to achieve the required cutting
width (Fig. IV)
Note:
Replace the Disc, ensuring the direction of rotation on the Disc corresponds with the
Rotational Direction Indicator (5) on the Disc Guard.
9. Refit the Outer Flange and secure with the Pin Spanner
10. Refit the Base Plate, Disc Guard in reverse order to removal
11. Ensure all fixings and guards are secure before use
Setting the cutting depth
Note:
The depth of cut can be adjusted from 10mm to 40mm.
1. Loosen the Depth Lock (7) and adjust to reposition the Base Plate (11) to the depth
required (Fig. V)
2. Tighten the Depth Lock
Operation
WARNING:
ALWAYS wear eye protection, adequate respiratory and hearing protection, as well as
suitable gloves, when working with this tool.
Set up
1. Mark a reference line on the wall at the centre line of the required chase
2. Using a suitable detector, check there are no hidden cables or pipes in the cutting area
Switching ON & OFF
Note:
This tool has an automatic trigger lock ‘OFF’ mechanism installed to prevent accidental
start up.
To switch the tool ON:
1. Hold the tool firmly with both hands, one on the Rear Handle (2) and one on the Front Handle (4)
2. Press the Trigger Lock ‘OFF’ Button (17) and simultaneously squeeze the Trigger Switch (3) to
start the tool (Fig. VI)
To switch the tool OFF:
1. Release the Trigger Switch
2. Allow the Discs to come to a complete stop before putting down the tool
Cutting
1. Carry out the procedure for switching the tool ON (see ‘Switching ON & OFF’ section)
2. Allow the motor to reach full speed, then position the wall chaser at the one end of the chase
(Fig. VII)
3. Slowly press the tool firmly against the workpiece, so that the Base Plate (11) is flat against the
surface, and move the tool slowly along the pre-marked channel.
4. Prevent the Discs from overheating by removing the tool from the load and running the motor at
full speed for approximately 30 seconds. DO NOT use water or cooling fluid to cool the Discs
Note:
Running the tool without load will also cool the motor rather than just stopping the tool.
5. When the cut is complete, switch the tool OFF (see ‘Switching ON & OFF’ section), and allow the
Discs to come to a complete stop before putting down the tool
6. To form the chase, clear the block between the two cut lines using the Chisel (25) (Fig. IX) and a
suitable hammer (not supplied)

Maintenance
WARNING:
ALWAYS disconnect from the power supply before carrying out any inspection,
maintenance or cleaning.
General inspection
• Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight
• Inspect the Power Cord (1) of the tool, prior to each use, for damage or wear. Repairs should be
carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies to extension cords
used with this tool
Cleaning
WARNING:
ALWAYS wear protective equipment including eye protection and gloves when
cleaning this tool.
• Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly, and
shorten the device’s service life
• Clean the body of your tool with a soft brush, or dry cloth
• Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts. If dry cleaning is not sufficient, a mild detergent
on a damp cloth is recommended
• Water must never come into contact with the tool
• Ensure the tool is thoroughly dry before using it
• If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the ventilation holes (where
applicable)
Lubrication
• Slightly lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals with a suitable spray lubricant
Replacing the cutting discs
• Regularly check the condition of the Cutting Discs (12 & 13) and replace as necessary
• Cracked, bent, heavily worn or damaged Discs must be replaced immediately
• Only use Discs that are in good condition
To remove the Discs:
1. Use a 6mm Hex Key (not supplied) to undo the Cutting Disc Guard Retaining Screws (6). Remove
and set aside taking care not to lose the washers (Fig. I)
2. Unscrew and remove the Depth Lock (7) and washer and remove the Cutting Disc Guard (14) (Fig. I)
3. Lower and remove the Base Plate (11) (Fig. II)
4. With the Cutting Guard and Base Plate removed, the Spindle (8) and Cutting Discs (12 & 13) (if
fitted) are now accessible
5. Press and hold the Spindle Lock Button (16) and rotate the Discs using the Pin Spanner (25) to
engage the spindle lock (Fig. III)
6. Once the Spindle is locked, use the Pin Spanner to unscrew the Outer Flange (9) by rotating the
Flange clockwise
7. Carefully remove the Outer Cutting Disc (12), Spacers (19 & 20), Spacer Bush (21), Inner Flange
(22) and Inner Cutting Disc (13)
8. Install the new Discs, positioning the Spacers as necessary to achieve the cutting width required
Note:
a) NEVER install the Discs without the Inner Flange in position first
b) ALWAYS install the Discs in the correct direction of rotation, with the printed side facing away
from the tool and the direction arrows matching Rotational Direction Indicator (5) on the Disc
Guard
9. Refit the Outer Flange, Base Plate and Disc Guard
