(3) and allow the belt to rotate for a short period

8.  Whilst the belt is running, adjust the Tracking Adjustment Dial (8) to correctly align

the belt to the centre of the plate

9.  Run the sander for approximately one minute to confirm the belt alignment is

correctly set

WARNING:

DO NOT use the sander with a sanding belt that is worn or damaged.

WARNING:

DO NOT use the same sanding belt for wood and metal. Metal particles can

become embedded in the belt and scratch a wooden surface.

Operation

WARNING:

Always wear eye protection, adequate respiratory and hearing protection, as

well as suitable gloves, when working with this tool.

Switching on and off

WARNING:

Never switch on the belt sander when the belt is in contact with the workpiece

or any other surface, as this might cause the operator to lose control over the machine,

and lead to serious injury.

1.  Connect the sander to the mains power supply
2.  Pull the On/Off Trigger Switch (3) upward to start the sander. Release the On/Off

Trigger Switch to stop the machine

3.  To keep the motor running continuously, pull and hold the On/Off Trigger Switch and

press the Lock-On Button (4)

4.  Pull and release the On/Off Trigger Switch to stop the motor running continuously

Sanding

Note:

This sander is designed for sanding wood, metal, plastic and similar materials. It is

used mainly for quick removal of large amounts of material.

1.  Sand the workpiece in overlapping strokes, always in parallel to the grain
2.  To remove paint or smooth very rough wood, sand across the grain at 45° in two

directions, then finish in parallel to the grain

Note:

The sander’s design with flush side enables sanding right up to perpendicular

surfaces.

3.  Use the Front Belt Roller (9) only to sand corners or irregular shapes
4.  Always lift the sander off the workpiece prior to switching off

WARNING:

The sanding belt will continue to run for a short time after the On/Off Trigger

Switch (3) is released. Keep hands clear of the belt and do not put the machine down until

the motor has stopped completely.

Emptying the dust bag

WARNING:

Always switch off and disconnect from the power supply before detaching

the dust bag.

1.  Pull the Dust Bag (5) off the Dust Extraction Port (6)
2.  Open the Dust Bag, empty and clean
3.  Refit to the Dust Extraction Port

Note:

If the sanding dust contains harmful substances, such as particles from old paint,

varnish, surface coatings etc., always dispose of these according to the relevant laws

and regulations.

WARNING:

For optimum dust removal, empty the dust bag when it is no more than half full.

Note:

Always clean the tool THOROUGHLY when switching from sanding wood to sanding

metal and vice versa.

Accessories

•  A range of accessories and consumables, including spare sanding belts with various

grits, is available from your Silverline stockist. Spare parts can be obtained from

toolsparesonline.com

Maintenance

WARNING:

Always disconnect from the power supply before carrying out any inspection,

maintenance or cleaning.

General inspection

•  Regularly check that all the fixing screws are tight
•  Inspect the supply cord of the tool, prior to each use, for damage or wear. Repairs

should be carried out by an authorised Silverline service centre. This advice also applies

to extension cords used with this tool

Changing the drive belt

•  If the motor of the sander operates when the tool is switched on, but the sanding belt

does not move, the drive belt might be worn or broken

Note:

Replacement drive belts are available from your Silverline dealer or toolsparesonline.

com.

1.  Remove the three screws holding the Drive Belt Cover (7) in place, using a Phillips

screwdriver (not supplied)

Note:

Two screws are accessible from the left side of the device; the third screw is located

on the right side of the Dust Extraction Port (6).

2.  Remove the worn belt by sliding it off the small (left) drive pulley first, then lift it off

the large (right) pulley

3.  Clean all dust and debris away
4.  Place the new drive belt over the large drive pulley first, making sure the teeth of

the belt sit within the grooves on the pulley. Holding the belt snug to the large pulley,

slide it, with the teeth aligned, onto the small drive pulley

5.  Turn the large pulley by hand to check that the belt runs smoothly and drives the

small pulley

6.  Refit the drive belt cover, using the three Phillips screws. Take care not to over-

tighten

Cleaning

•  Keep your tool clean at all times. Dirt and dust will cause internal parts to wear quickly,

and shorten the machine’s service life. Clean the body of your machine with a soft

brush, or dry cloth. If available, use clean, dry, compressed air to blow through the

ventilation holes

•  Clean the tool casing with a soft damp cloth using a mild detergent. Do not use alcohol,

petrol or strong cleaning agents

•  Never use caustic agents to clean plastic parts

Lubrication

•  Slightly lubricate all moving parts at regular intervals with a suitable spray lubricant

Brushes

•  Over time the carbon brushes inside the motor may become worn
•  Excessively worn brushes may cause loss of power, intermittent failure, or visible

sparking

•  If you suspect that the brushes may be worn, have them replaced at an authorised

Silverline service centre

Note:

One set of spare carbon brushes is supplied with this tool.

Storage

•  Store this tool carefully in a secure, dry place out of the reach of children

Disposal

Always adhere to national regulations when disposing of power tools that are no longer

functional and are not viable for repair.
•  Do not dispose of power tools, or other waste electrical and electronic equipment

(WEEE), with household waste

•  Contact your local waste disposal authority for information on the correct  way to

dispose of power tools
