Long-term storage
A long-term storage is a medium which retains data even after your PC has been
switched off.
Floppy disks
and
hard disks
belong to this category. Data is stored until it is
erased or overwritten by the user.
Main memory
Programs
and texts are loaded into main memory. Programs have to be called into
main memory before they can be run. The larger the main memory, the faster and
easier you can work. The main memory is a volatile memory which is erased when the
PC is switched off or reset.
Main menu
Application programs
, commands and other menus can be called in the main menu.
Mark
When you highlight objects (texts, characters, etc.) on the screen, this is referred to as
marking.

1 Mbyte = 1024 Kbytes = 1,048,576 bytes
Menu
A menu is a selection list displayed on the screen. Each menu feature can be selected
and activated from the keyboard or with the mouse pointer, and your PC then
executes the command associated with the feature. This menu is comparable to the
one you use in a restaurant to select a meal.

Behind each menu feature there are one or more commands which you can select via
the keyboard or using the mouse.

The menu program serves to execute the

Monitor
The monitor is an output device on the PC. You can easily check and modify inputs
and outputs in the display area. The display area consists of a large number of
pixels

Pictures and texts can be displayed on the screen by addressing the relevant pixels.
