Parameter setting: Frequency inverters for category 3 motors
INFORMATION
When you start up the frequency inverter, observe the operating instructions of the
respective frequency inverter as well as the operating instructions of the gear unit if
you use a gearmotor.
7.4.1
Before startup
Prior to startup, check that all the conditions for the typical application are met, see
chapter
"
). In the event of deviations from these condi-
tions, you have to calculate the maximum terminal voltage, the field weakening range,
and the torque characteristics prior to startup. The effective operating point must be
below the new thermal characteristic curve.

Startup procedure for MOVITRAC
®

Observe the following points during startup:

Use the latest MOVITOOLS
®
MotionStudio software version for guided startup.
•
Startup and operation of the motors in category 3 is possible in parameter sets 1
and 2.
•
As the control mode, you can set both "V/f" and "vector controlled" (VFC).
•
For the application, you can only select speed control and hoist application. Do not
use the options "DC braking" or "Flying start function".
•
The operating mode must always be set to "4‑quadrant operation".
•
Select the matching motor series in the "Motor type" window.
•
In the "Motor selection" window, choose the equipment category, the line voltage,
the motor voltage, the connection type, and the type of plant configuration in addi-
tion to the motor.
Current limit
In guided startup, the
current limit
parameter is set to 150% I
N Mot
in the application win-
dow. This value must be reduced according to the permitted maximum output torque
at the gear unit M

.
Maximum motor speed
The maximum motor speed must be limited in the "System limits" window. Observe
the following when you set the parameter

Maximum speed ≤ maximum gear unit input speed n

when using a gear unit according to Directive 2014/34/EU.
Automatic adjustment
The
automatic adjustment
parameter is activated via guided startup. Thus, the fre-
quency inverter sets parameter
IxR value
with each enable signal. A manual change is
not permitted.
