WARNING! Puncture Hazard. Be careful when handling the electrode. The tips of
the electrodes are extremely sharp.

1 Electrode adjustment nut (black collar) that adjusts the extension of the
electrode tip
2 Retaining ring that secures the probe in the probe tower
3 Electrode tip through which samples are sprayed in the sample inlet area of
the ion source
Gas and Electrical Connections
Gas and low- and high-voltage electrical connections are provided on the front plate of the
vacuum interface and they connect internally through the ion source housing. When the ion
source is installed on the mass spectrometer, all of the electrical and gas connections are
complete.
Ion Source Sense Circuit
An ion source sense circuit disables the high-voltage power supply for the mass spectrometer
and the source exhaust system under these conditions:
• The ion source is not installed or is improperly installed.
• A probe is not installed.
