Installing Vehicles with Rails Removed
The bearings on precision rail vehicles are preset at the factory before shipment. The recom-
mended, and easiest method for installing the vehicles on a precision rail system is by remov-
ing one rail, or during installation before the last rail is installed. This method enables all
vehicles to slide onto the rail system without having to make major adjustments to the bear-
ings. For proper vehicle orientation, see
1.
See
Removing Vehicles by Removing Rails
for the rail removal procedure.
2.
Slide the felt tip of the lubricating applicator into the body of the applicator so it can
clear the rail (see
Replace Lubricating Applicators on Vehicles
).
NOTE:
The felt tip contains a v-groove that must be oriented correctly to the rail. If
the v-groove does not align with the rail, excess drag is created and the vehi-
cle cannot move freely along the rail.
3.
Slide the vehicle onto the rail with the eccentric bearings on the outside (stand side) of
the rails.
4.
Once the vehicle is properly positioned on the rail, slide it along both the straight and
curve rails to determine if the factory preload is satisfactory. The vehicle must move
smoothly along both straight and curve rails with little or no front-to-back or
side-to-side rocking or binding felt between the vehicle bearings and the rail.
NOTE:
The factory preload (settings for the eccentric bearing) for each vehicle var-
ies slightly and may not be appropriate for a particular transport system. If
the eccentric bearings for a vehicle require adjustment to improve the move-
ment of the vehicle along the rail, see
.
•
If the vehicle can be noticeably rocked from side to side or front to back, then
there is too much movement between the bearings and the rail and the bearings
must be adjusted for a tighter fit with the rails, see
.
•
If the vehicle appears to bind, then the bearings must be adjusted for a looser fit
with the rails, see
.
Removing Vehicles Without Removing Rails
The single or dual array vehicles can be removed from the precision rail system without
removing any of the precision rail sections. Removing vehicles in this manner requires adjust-
ment of the bearings on the vehicle after it is reinstalled on the rail.
1.
Stop all motion on the path where the vehicle is being removed.
2.
Remove the lubricating applicator from the bottom of the vehicle (
).
