Monitoring file system use (manually)
Using the disk usage tool
The
Disk Usage
icon on the front panel of the CDE allows you to manually
display information about total space and available space on a file system. To find
this icon:
v
With the POD feature, click the
User Tools
icon (the paper and pencil) to open a
subpanel.
v
Without the POD feature, click the
Application Manager
icon (the file drawer
containing a ruler, calculator, and pencil) to open a window. In this window,
click the
Desktop_Tools
icon.
When you click the
Disk Usage
icon, AIX displays information for all currently
mounted file systems as shown in this example:

The first column displays AIX file systems that are also directories. These
directories are all subdirectories of the
/dev
parent directory, which means that
they contain special files for I/O devices. The most important column is the fourth
from the left that displays the percentage of each file system used.
Using the df command
You can see how your AIX system uses space in a single file system by using the
df
command. To manually display the space on the file system where your current
directory is located, enter this command on the AIX command line:
df .
AIX displays this:

File systems and directories to clean up
Certain file systems and directories tend to fill up. You should check, and if
necessary, clean up these file systems and directories regularly. See Chapter 32,
“Customizing error logs in the InfoPrint Manager AIX server,” on page 313 for
more information that will help reduce the amount of clean up that is necessary.
File systems used by all InfoPrint installations
If either the
/var/psf
or the
/var/pd
file system is more than 85% full, you should
contact your InfoPrint service representative to determine whether you need to
clean out files or modify any configuration settings. You might consider removing
some files, such as large error or accounting logs. You can find these files in the
following locations:
v
