1-4 System description
The SP2-1 scanning probe
The SP2-1 (see Figures 1.1 and 1.2), is a second generation probe from
Renishaw specifically designed for scanning. As well as using the latest in
low-power electronics to provide excellent thermal performance, the SP2-1
also offers:
•
Scanning speeds that are up to three times faster than conventional
probes.
•
High accuracy measurement to permit machine finishing of parts.
•
Low scanning forces.
•
A compact size to suit all machine types.
•
Horizontal or vertical mounting in any orientation.
•
A self-resetting stylus overtravel system.
•
Easy stylus mounting.
•
A user function switch, mounted to the probe, to allow customised
signalling to the machine’s control system.
Supplied with both a clutch assembly [3, Figure 1.1] and adapter assembly
[4], the SP2-1 can be located in a fixed position whilst offering limited
protection against accidental rotation of the machine tool spindle.
A probe cable assembly (PL79) [2] is provided to allow connection of the
SP2-1 probe to a probe interface card (CC1 or CC5).
Further information on the SP2-1 scanning probe can be obtained by reading
the SP2-1 installation guide (publication no. H-2000-5110) and SP2-1 Users
Guide (publication no. H-2000-5115).
The probe interface card (CC1 and CC5)
The probe interface card (see Figure 1.3), provided for location within your
computer, monitors signals sent by the SP2-1 probe and converts these to a
form recognisable to the TRACECUT software.
In addition, the CC5 probe interface card will also act in the same manner as
a counter card and will either decode 3 axes encoder systems or count 3 axes
of quadrature incremental encoder signals. In all cases, signal format is
provided by an RS422 balanced line system to ensure excellent immunity
against electrical noise.
