Storage System Detailed Installation
This section describes preparing and installing the OmniStor 4000F Storage System
enclosure(s) into the rack cabinet or the enclosure into its tower stand (refer to “Installing
the Storage System into the Tower Stand” on page 27).
After installing the hardware components, go to the “Operating Mode Configuration and
Cabling” section to cable the enclosure(s) for your selected topology.
Installing the Storage System Enclosure into the Rack Cabinet
1
Select an appropriate location within your rack cabinet.
Consider the location of the enclosures in relationship to each other and the host
server to ensure the cables will easily reach between them.
CAUTION:
The power supplies should be removed prior to installing the enclosure
into the rack cabinet. The enclosure chassis could be damaged during
installation due to the added unbalanced weight of the power supplies.
2
Remove the storage system from its shipping carton and inspect for obvious damage.
a
Remove and open the accessory kit. Inside you will find the power cable(s), serial
communication cable, and the documentation/software CD. Also you will find a
QuickStart instruction page that provides accelerated procedures to setup the
enclosure.
b
Open the left and right flaps on the Accessory Box Insert. Remove the bezel and
mounting rail kit.
c
Lift the Foam Pad from the Drive Tray and remove the disk drives from the Foam
Drive Tray. Then remove the Drive Tray from the box.
d
Remove the top foam piece from the enclosure chassis and lift the enclosure from
the box. Place the enclosure on a flat work surface.
3
Remove the power supplies.
Grasp the power supply handle and slide the release latch to the right with your thumb
as you pull the power supply from the enclosure. Repeat for the other power supply.
