8. PROBLEM SOLVING AND MAINTENANCE
If you do experience a problem with your Model 9930, the unit will alert you with
several audible beeps or warning signals and will always produce a message in
the display that will describe the problem. Once you correct the situation, you can
begin the operation once again.
An important tool for problem solving is pressing the STOP button. Pressing
STOP is the principal way to clear the system of most error conditions.

Problem and Probable Cause
Vertical lines printing on received pages:
The remote sending fax unit may have a
scanning problem or the Imaging Cartridge
may be damaged or leaking.
Fading print: The Imaging Cartridge may be
running out of toner.
Receive or printed pages are completely
black: Either the Imaging Cartridge
requires maintenance or it may need
replacing.
Printing and receiving blank pages: There
is a problem with the Imaging Cartridge or
the Model 9930 may need servicing.
Solution
Print a Transaction Journal (see Section
5.6.3 for instructions) and check the print
quality.
If the Journal does not contain any vertical
lines, then the remote sending unit may
have a scanning problem. Contact the
remote Operator and report the problem to
them.
If the Journal contains the same vertical
lines, replace the Imaging Cartridge (see
Section 8.6.1).
Replace the Imaging Cartridge (see Section
8.6.1).
Replace the Imaging Cartridge (see Section
8.6.1). If black images are still being
received, the Model 9930 may require
servicing. Call the Pitney Bowes
Diagnostic Center listed in the back of this
Guide.
Make sure you have removed the sealing
tape from the Imaging Cartridge. If this has
already been removed, the Imaging
Cartridge may be completely out of toner. If
replacing the Imaging Cartridge (Section
8.6.1) does not correct the problem, your
Model 9930 may require maintenance. Call
the Pitney Bowes Diagnostic Center listed
in the back of this Guide.
