BALANCING STABILATOR. (See Figure 4-16.)
NOTE: On PA-32R-300 do not attempt to adjust the stabilator tip balance weight
To balance stabilator, the stabilator assembly must be painted and complete including trim tab, tab
pushrod and end bearing, stabilator tips, static wicks, and all attaching screws. Before balancing, tape
trim tab in neutral position with a small piece of tape. Place complete assembly on knife edge supports
in a draft-free area that allows unrestricted movement. Place tool shown in Figure 4-15 on stabilator with
beam perpendicular to hinge centerline. Do not place tool on trim tab. Calibrate tool as described in
Balancing Equipment, above. Read scale when bubble level has been centered by adjustment of movable
weight and determine static balance limit.
This value shall be within the limits given in Table IV-II. If the static balance of the stabilator is not
within the limits shown, proceed as follows:
a.
Heavy: Remove weight from the mass balance weight until the static balance is within limits.
b.
Light: Add weights to the mass balance weight until the static balance is within limits. (Refer to
Parts Catalog for balance weight part number.)
