1.3.4 Contraindications
If the patient has any of the following conditions, consult their health care professional before using the
device:
• Inability to maintain a patent airway or adequately clear secretions
• At risk for aspiration of gastric contents
• Diagnosed with acute sinusitis or otitis media
• Allergy or hypersensitivity to the mask materials where the risk from allergic reaction outweighs the
benefit of ventilatory assistance
• Epistaxis, causing pulmonary aspiration of blood
• Hypotension
When assessing the relative risks and benefits of using this equipment, the health care professional should
understand that this device can deliver the pressure ranges indicated in the Control Accuracy table in
Chapter 7. In the event of certain fault conditions, a maximum pressure of 60 cm H
2
O is possible.
