1.7 Required qualifications
The machine has been designed and built taking account of a risk analysis and following
careful selection of the standards to be complied with, as well as additional technical
specifications. It thereby corresponds with the latest available technology and guarantees
maximum safety.
However, this level of safety can only be achieved in practice if all measures required for
this are implemented. As part of their duty of care the machine operator is responsible for
planning these measures and checking that they have been executed.
The operator must in particular ensure that
•
the machine is only used in accordance with its intended purpose (see sections
1.4 to 1.6)
•
the machine is operated in perfect condition and full working order, and the
functionality of the safety devices is regularly inspected in particular.
•
the Operating Instructions are available at all times in a legible and complete
state at the usage location for the machine.
•
none of the safety instructions and warnings attached to the machine are
removed and they are all legible.
The machine may only be operated by individuals who have been trained, instructed and
authorised for this. These individuals must know the Operating Instructions and act in
accordance with them. Only staff who have been trained on the machine functionality and
who are therefore able to identify any hazardous situations more rapidly are permitted to
work on the machine. Machine operators must be familiar with the arrangement of the
switches before starting any work.
The relevant authorisations for the operating staff must be clearly set out.
Operating staff to be trained may initially only work on the machine under the supervision
of an experienced individual. Training which has been successfully completed should be
confirmed in writing.
All control and safety devices may only be operated by trained individuals.
1.8 Protective equipment
All users are required to wear the following personal protective equipment at a minimum
for all work at the machine:
•
Safety boots
•
Tight-fitting work clothing
