¨
The optional Network board. This is located in
the second white PCI slot from the
motherboard.
¨
The DSP assembly. This comprises the DSP
Board and the DSP Daughter Board which are
connected together and are located in the
third white PCI slot and is fitted as standard.
¨
The Sound card. This is located in the next
black ISA slot from the motherboard.
¨
The EP Stimulator board. This board is
located in the next black ISA slot from the
motherboard. This is fitted as an option.
Before removing the boards, disconnect any leads
attached to them, remembering which lead
connects to which board. See inside the PC Tower
and other parts of the Synergy mobile system”.
Remove the screw from the centre of the retaining
bracket and remove the bracket. Now the boards
can be withdrawn from the Accessories Card
socket.
It should not normally be necessary to separate the
two boards comprising the DSP assembly as there
are no serviceable parts inside. The two boards are
held together by screws into spacers separating the
two boards.
Remove the screws from one board only as the
spacers can be left attached to the other board.
Remove the two screws either side of the headbox
connector securing the metal bracket to the
connector. The connectors between the boards can
then be separated by pulling them apart.
Refitting of the boards is the reverse process to
that described above.
9.1.5
Removing the CPU Mother Board
Disconnect all leads from the CPU board at the
rear of the tower.
Disconnect the 5 way flat cable from the PC tower
ON/OFF switch on the front panel to the connector
on the motherboard.
Disconnect the 6 way and 13 way leads from the
PSU loom to the top and bottom connectors on the
motherboard.
Disconnect the three drive signal ribbon cables
from the bottom connectors on the motherboard.
The motherboard is held in position by a black
plastic lever that locks it in to the chassis. To
remove the board, raise the handle to a vertical
position. Then carefully lift it to separate it from
the Accessories Card connector and then slide it
upwards out of the unit.
Refitting of the motherboard is the reverse process
to the above. When refitting it, ensure that the
board locates correctly in the plastic runner and
correctly connects with the Accessories
Card.Reconnect the other cables to the correct
connectors otherwise damage may result.
9.1.6
Removing the Accessories Card (Riser
Card)
Remove the “Plug-in” boards and motherboard as
described in sections 9.1.4 and 9.1.5.
The Connector Board is mounted on metal
brackets that are part of the main chassis. On the
on the edge belowthe motherboard it is slotted into
a plastic runner and at the opposite edge it secured
in position with a single screw into a chassis
bracket. Remove the screw, lift the Connector
Board from the brackets and then withdraw the
card from the plastic runner.
Refitting of the Connector Board is the reverse
process to the above.
9.1.7
Removing The I/O board
The board is housed in a metal box that is fitted to
the front of the chassis. Disconnect the three cables
from the front of the board. Disconnect the five
cables that go to the DSP board, the three that go
to the EP stimulator (if fitted) and the cable to the
PSU. Remove the two screws securing the front of
the box in to the tower. This can now be
withdrawn out of the front of the tower.
A removable screening plate is fitted in the top of
the I/O board housing. This is sprung in to place in
four slots.
Re-fitting of the I/O board and cables is the
reverse process to that described above. Ensure
that any removed cable ties are replaced to secure
the cables securely in the unit. To check
reconnection of cables see figure
9.2 Removing the Disk Drives
Hard disks are located at the rear of the tower.
Disk drives containing removable media (e.g.
floppy disk, CD-ROM) are located at the front of
the PC tower.
When re-fitting drives, always use the original
screws. If a screw is lost, only replace it with a
similar screw otherwise damage to the drive
may occur.
Remove the cover as described in section 9.1.1.
9.2.1
Hard Disk Drive Removal
The IDE hard disk is located in a sub-chassis
within the tower and is secured in position by two
screws at each side of the drive. It can be removed
