PATIENT SAFETY CHECKS
In order to perform the following checks, a basic
knowledge of Windows 95 is required to verify the
system settings.
The tests described in this chapter cover all of the
currently available options for the Synergy Mobile
and therefore some tests or signal connections may
not be relevant to the system being tested.
5.1 Equipment Required
Oscilloscope(CRO) – 100MHz Dual Channel
3k0 1%, 3k3 5%, 2k7 5% and 100
Ω
1% loads
Signal Generator
Ammeter – a.c. up to 500µA
Ammeter – d.c. up to 50µA
Audiometric Headphones
5.2 Initial Checks
Set the Synergy Mobile mains switch on the
Isolation transformer / Power Supply to Off.
Connect the PC Tower, Connection box, Control
box, Headbox and EMG stimulus probe(s) to the
unit. Plug the QWERTY keyboard, SVGA monitor
and mouse leads into the sockets at the rear of the
tower marked (
2 h
and
8
).
Connect the Synergy Mobile Isolation transformer
/ Power Supply mains inlet directly to the mains
supply and switch on. Check that after the power
on system test (POST), the Windows 95 logo is
displayed in the centre of the screen. After a short
period, the display should increase in size to fill
the monitor display and should show the Windows
95 desktop. The Synergy Mobile application is
launched automatically at start-up, initially
showing the Synergy Mobile logo and then
showing the “Synergy” screen similar to that
shown in Figure 5.1.
The actual screen displayed is dependent on the
version of software installed.
Verify that by moving the mouse around, the
mouse pointer can be moved to all areas of the
display. When the mouse is at one edge of the
display the task bar will appear. The default edge
is the bottom, but this can be changed by the user.
If necessary, adjust the monitor for optimum
display brightness and contrast.
5.3 Signal Input
From the test menu, select the top test in the list by
double-clicking on it, and then click on OK when
the “Select Protocol” box is displayed. The display
will now change to show the acquisition screen.
A typical screen is shown in figure 5.2, although
there may be some variation according to how the
user has configured the test. From the
“Acquisition” drop-down menu, select “Set-up”
and turn on all amplifier channels. Click on OK
and check that all monitor traces now show mains
pick-up.
5.4 EMG Stimulus Output
If you are using a stimulus probe, check that the
positive polarity LED is illuminated.
