Class 1 mode
(2) Cautions
BE SURE to read the following cautions prior to using the Class 1 mode for the first time.
* The normal fax capabilities of this unit will not be accessible during the period the Class 1 mode is
ON and the related application software in your computer is running. In other words, fax
transmission/reception, settings and registration in the fax itself will not be possible.
* If the Class 1 mode is ON but the power to your computer is OFF, the Class 1 mode will not be
available. Thus, automatic reception will be enabled and any documents sent to the facsimile will be
received as in a normal fax reception.
* If the related application software in your computer is running when the power to the fax is OFF (the
power cord is disconnected), it is necessary to restart the application in your computer as well as
return power to the fax (connect the power cord) in order to use the Class 1 mode capabilities again.
* Always supply power to the facsimile (connect the power cord) before starting the related application
software in your computer.
* The Class 1 mode may not be accessible during warm up of the facsimile unit or when an error has
occurred.
* If the facsimile is in the middle of a transmission, a reception, in the middle of copying or printing out
a report or list, the facsimile will not be able to receive commands from your computer.
* During transmission from or reception to your computer in the Class 1 mode, the operation panel on
the facsimile will be inoperable.
* For a detailed explanation of the proper procedure for using Class 1 capabilities from your computer,
refer to the instruction manual of the related application software being used in the computer.
* Only LaserFax 3.5 is compatible for use with the PC-Fax function.
(3) Connecting the facsimile to your computer
Use a 24-pin RS-232C cable to connect the facsimile to your
computer.
* The facsimile is equipped with a D-SUB25PIN serial port (EIA-
232-D) which is located at the rear of the unit. Check both the
connector port on the facsimile and on your computer before
selecting a cable for connection. When connecting the two
units, use the screws on each side of the cable connector to
secure the cable to each port.
