Third party support

Using QNX on the PC-500

To use QNX on the PC-500, follow the steps below:

1. Boot from a floppy or a hard drive that has QNX installed on your

system.

2. Program SSD1 with the QNX image. See the Programming QNX into

SSD1 section below.

3. To boot from SSD1 with QNX, execute SETSSD SSD1 /QNX+.

Programming QNX into SSD1

The PC-500 contains a reserved 192K area located in front of the SSD1
flash. The EFSYS.500 driver from Octagon reserves this space auto-
matically. Use the sample files from Octagon’s QNX utility disk to
program QNX into SSD1.

Note

When QNX+ is in the SETSSD command line, i.e.

SETSSD SSD1 SSD0/QNX+

then the QNX drive option is enabled. Once your system is in the QNX
mode, SSD1 cannot be used as a drive from DOS. TESTRFA will not
work on SSD1.

Using M-Systems DiskOnChip (DOC)

To use the M-Systems DiskOnChip (DOC) module with your PC-500,
follow these steps:

1. Run:

SETSSD SSD1 /before

2. Power off the PC-500.

3. Confirm that the BIOSDEV jumper is set to SSD1.

4. Make sure SSD0 is jumpered for flash by configuring W5[1-2, 3-4, 5-6,

9-10] W2[7-8].

5. Install the DOC module into SSD0. Make sure to orient pin 1 on the

DOC module with pin 1 on SSD0.
