Installing the Intelligent PEP 

PEP34 is the first in a new series of PEPs to feature a simple built-in intelligence into its installation 
process. This is necessary until all languages have been brought up to the same level of functionality.  
 
The installation of this PEP remains the same as the previous ones though. This is because the 
package selection as well as its installation will be handled by the inherent intelligence of the PEP and 
so is transparent to the user. This is achieved by looking up the PEP log file, which keeps a record of 
the last installed PEP. 
  
For instance, if the system were running PEP16 before the installation of PEP34, the new PEP installer 
would automatically select the ‘Basic’ package and install it. Conversely, if the system was on PEP26 
and then upgraded to PEP34, then the PEP installer would automatically select the ‘Full’ package and 
install it. 
 

Note:

 For customers who do not originally have PEP27 (American English PEP), they must install it 

BEFORE installing PEP34.
