Notes:
1. Each new version of a G release PEP will include all the patches of the previous versions. This
means that the size of the PEP will keep increasing with each new version. But that also
means that only the latest version of the PEP needs to be installed as it will have all the
patches that were installed before
2. The mechanism behind this is the latest PEP will always backup the original file before
attempting to replace or reinstall it. The advantage of doing this is that it allows users to roll
back to the original file in case the patch did not work or it created other problems. All the
backup files are stored in the newly created C:\HM\Old Files folder. The replacement of
individual files has to be done manually. However, all files will be automatically restored when
the PEP is uninstalled
3. Other functions of a PEP include addition as well as deletion of files and folders. File types
supported are *.dll, *.ocx, *.exe, *.ini, *.rcp and language files (eg *.d40)
To uninstall a PEP
It is not recommended to uninstall the PEP if it is working correctly. If you find that the system is not
working the way it should, then follow the un-installation steps below:
1. Shut down the HMS 400 system; Refer to HMS 400 Installation and Configuration Guide
(NTP NN42350-301): Chapter 7 – Stopping the System on Page 103
2. Shut down the PMSI module by right clicking it on the tray icon. Press yes to confirm.
3. Go to Windows, Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs.
4. Look for the previous PEP version, click Change/Remove button, then click yes to uninstall.
When you install a new PEP, it will prompt you to uninstall the current PEP, if there is any. Just
follow the instructions provided above to uninstall the current PEP before installing the new one.
Displaying Installed PEPs
Patch Utility is a module used to view the history of all PEPs that had been installed and uninstalled
as well as language files installed in the HMS400 system. It also contains logs of all PEP
transactions. The Patch History folder is automatically created upon the first PEP installation. It will
not be removed even if the PEP has been uninstalled.
1. Go to Windows ‘Start’ -> Programs -> Nortel HM and click on Patch Utility or Browse to
C:\HM\Patch History folder and double click on:

shown below:
