Overview
Remote access enables your system to establish remote connection thru a modem connection.
This connection allows administrators and Nortel Networks product support representatives to
perform advanced administrative actions such as:
•
System
diagnostic
•
Shut down or reboot server
•
Apply
PEP’s
•
Other advanced administration activities.
In order to have remote access available on the HMS 400 server, the following components need
to be available:
•
An analog telephone (PSTN) line (provide by customer)
•
A USB Modem (either the Nortel NTUB30HA modem or one provided by customer)
•
pcAnywhere v11 (one licensed copy is provided and pre-installed from factory)
Installing and Configuring USB Modem
The Nortel NTUB30HA USB modem kit is recommended for North American customers. For other
regions, Nortel recommends the customer purchase and install a USB modem which will allow
remote access to the server for support personnel. The HMS 400 only supports the use of a USB
modem as the serial ports are fully utilized for connecting the server to the PMS and PBX PMS
port.
Note
: The USB modem can either be the Nortel supplied NTUB30HA or a customer supplied unit.
The NTUB30HA is only certified for use in North America and may not be ordered in other regions.
1. Plug the USB modem into any available USB port on your HMS 400 server; refer to “rear
panel diagram” on page 73.
2. Windows 2000 professional will detect the new hardware and install it. You may be required to
install a modem driver. Refer to the modem manufacturer’s installation guide that is included
with your modem.
3. Attach an analog telephone line to the modem jack. It is recommended to test this line by
connecting it to a phone first to ensure it is able to accept incoming calls.
Configuring pcAnywhere
PcAnywhere allows remote access to and control of customers’ HMS 400 server, which in turn
allows support representatives to perform such tasks as downloading of log files, uploading and
installation of patches, configuration checking, and other administrative functions.
Note
: PcAnywhere v11.0 is pre-installed and configured from the factory and is included as part of
the Recovery CD. However, should you need to re-configure it or add caller accounts the
procedures are provided in the following section.
To specify remote PC callers
The specify remote PC callers procedure defines your HMS 400 server to act as a host computer
and setting caller accounts and password for support representative (caller) to login to your server.
This ensures that only authorized users can administer your server using pcAnywhere.
Note:
To simplify the login process, the default user names and passwords are shown below.
However, for added security, it is recommended to have the password changed on a regular basis
and have it kept in a safe location. Following table shows the accounts and its intended use.
