If steering cylinder fully closed/fully extended measure-
ments do not meet requirements of proceeding steps 1
and 2, steering cylinder must be adjusted as follows:
Step 3: Turn left wheel until LH spindle stop, 1, touches
LH axle stop surface, 2. Remove cotter pin, 3, securing
crown nut, 4, to cylinder socket, 5. Remove crown nut
securing cylinder socket to LH spindle, then dismount
socket end of cylinder from LH spindle.
Step 4: Compress cylinder until fully closed. Loosen and
back off jam nut, 6, to expose threading. Measure
0.305-0.508 cm (0.12-0.20 in.) back from top of
hexagon portion of rod, 7, and mark threading. Rotate
socket, 5, clockwise until mark on threading aligns with
top of rod, 7. Secure rod hexagon, 7, and torque jam
nut, 6, to 122-149 Nm (90-110 Ib-ft).
Step 5: To install cylinder socket, see previous Steering
Cylinder Installation, step 2.
Step 6: Turn right wheel until RH spindle stop, 1, touches
RH axle stop surface, 2. Steering cylinder must be
0.305-0.508 cm (0.12-0.20 in.) from being fully
extended.
Step 7: If requirement is not met, dismount socket end of
cylinder as described after sentence 1 in step 3 above.
Step 8: Extend cylinder, 1, until fully extended. Loosen
and back off jam nut, 2, to expose threading. Mark
threading above rod hexagon, 3. Rotate socket, 4,
counterclockwise until mark on threading is
0.305-0.508 cm (0.12-0.20 in.) from top of rod
hexagon, 3. Secure rod hexagon and torque jam nut, 2,
to 122-149 Nm (90-110 Ib-ft).
Step 9: To install cylinder socket, see previous Steering
Cylinder Installation, step 2.
