Step 28: Inspect inner bearing, 1, for damage. Replace, if necessary. Clean bearing, 1, bearing area, and
spindle shaft, 2, of dirt and grease. Use a commercial solvent, as required. Pack bearing with wheel
bearing grease NLGI2.
Step 29: Place inner bearing, 1, in hub, 3, with narrow end of bearing cone toward hub. Place seal, 4 (side
with printing toward hub) over bearing, 1, and install with seal driver and hammer.
Step 30: Using hoist, install hub, 3, on spindle and fill hub cavity approximately 1/3 with wheel bearing
grease NLGI 2. Install outer bearing, 5 (narrow side in), with hammer and driver.
Step 31: Install washer and nut, 6. Torque nut to 81-122 Nm (60-90 Ib-ft). Rotate hub, 3, several times to
distribute grease and seat bearing. Back off nut and torque to 14-27 Nm (10-20 Ib-ft). Install cotter pin, 7.
NOTE: NOTE: Do not overtighten axle nut. Back off nut to align cotter pin with hole in axle.
Step 32: Fill bearing cover, 8, with wheel bearing grease NLGI2. Install bearing cover with bolts, 9, and
washers. Torque bolts to 47.4 +/- 6.8 Nm (35 +/- 5 Ib-ft).
