Rear Axle and Tandems

Step 3: Disconnect the two brake fluid lines, 1, then
remove the fittings, 2, and o-rings, 3, from the top of the
rear axle, 4.
Be sure wheels are on the
ground before removing the
support hardware in the next
step.
Step 4: Remove nut, 5, washer, 4, bolt, 3, and bushing, 2,
from all four mounting brackets on the rear axle, 1.
Step 5: Using a suitable jack, raise the rear of the grader
sufficient to clear the axle and tandem assembly. Place
supports under the rear chassis rails to support the
chassis.
Step 6: Carefully roll the axle and tandem assembly out
from under the machine.
Step 7: Using a chain and hoist, place the rear axle and
tandem assembly on supports in preparation for further
disassembly.

The tandem drive assemblies can be serviced while mounted on the machine, however, the following proce-
dures assume the axle and tandem assembly have been removed and placed in a suitable support.
Chains are not adjustable but links can be removed if necessary. To access the chains, remove the access
covers on the side and the top of the box. If it becomes necessary to rotate the chain to gain access to the
connecting link, raise the side of the grader using a suitable lift.
