2. Click
Radiography
to select the radiography workflow.
3. On the
Position and Optimise
tab, in the
Position
panel, click
.
A message displays while the manipulator is moving to the load position:
Once in the load position, open the operator door.
4. Load the sample onto the manipulator.
Ensure the sample is located centrally, where possible, and does not
hang over the edges of the manipulator since this may damage the
sample and/or system when the manipulator is moved.
5. Close the operator door and check that the System Status shows a green tick, indicating
that all interlocks are made.
5.4.3
Set the X-ray conditions
The X-ray parameters that need to be set in Inspect-X are:
1.
Beam energy (kV)
, which controls the penetration of the sample.
2.
Beam current or Power (µA or W)
, which controls the brightness of the image.
To adjust the X-ray conditions, use the controls in the
Optimise Image
panel on the
Position and Optimise
tab. You can adjust the conditions with X-rays switched on or off.
The defining resolution of the X-ray image is a function of the X-ray spot size and the
effective pixel size.
X-ray spot size
The X-ray spot size is dependent upon the X-ray power, so increasing either the kV or the µA
increases the power and makes the X-ray spot size larger. The larger the X-ray spot size, the
lower the defining resolution. However, if the X-ray spot size is smaller than the effective
pixel size, then the dominant factor in the defining resolution is the effective pixel size.
Effective pixel size
The effective pixel size is dependent upon the geometric magnification of the sample, and
thus dependent on the Z-axis position and imaging panel.
