Reference Guide for the Model RH340 Internet Access ISDN Router
6-4
Troubleshooting
–
Check that the corresponding Link LEDs are on for your network interface card and for
the hub ports (if any) that are connected to your PC and router.
•
Wrong network configuration
–
Verify that the Ethernet card driver software and TCP/IP software are both installed and
configured on your PC or workstation.
–
Verify that the IP address for your router and your PC are correct and that the addresses are
on the same subnet.
Testing the Path from Your PC to the Internet
After verifying that the LAN path works correctly, test the path from your PC to the Internet.
To test this path:
1.
Click on Start from the Windows toolbar.
2.
Select Run.
3.
Type in Ping -n10 followed by an IP address on the Internet (such as your ISP’s DNS
server).
If the path is functioning correctly, the B1 or B2 LED on the router should turn on, indicating that
a call is being placed. If the B1 or B2 LEDs do not turn on, check that your PC has the IP address
of your router listed as the default gateway. Follow the instructions in Chapter 3,
“Verifying TCP/
IP Properties
.”
As the ISDN call is being set up, your PC should display a few timeouts followed shortly by
replies. If the path is not functioning correctly, only timeouts are displayed. This response
indicates that the router is unable to establish a PPP connection with the ISP. Refer to the next
section, “Troubleshooting an ISP Connection.”
