
7.13 Lube Oil System, Lube Oil Circuit
7.13.1 Engine oil level – Check
Checking engine oil level prior to
engine start
1.
Withdraw oil dipstick from guide tube and
wipe it.
2.
Insert dipstick into guide tube up to the
stop, withdraw after approx. 10 seconds.
Check oil level on oil dipstick side marked
"5 Min. after Stop".
Note:
After extended out-of-service periods, the
oil level may be up to 2 cm above the
"max." mark. This might be caused by en‐
gine oil flowing from oil filter and heat ex‐
changer back into the oil pan.
3.
The oil level must reach the "max." mark or
exceed it by up to 2 cm.
4.
If necessary, top up to "max." mark
(→ Page 97).
5.
Insert oil dipstick into guide tube up to the
stop.
Checking engine oil level with the engine running
1.
After the engine has run for approx. 10 minutes at a constant speed of 900 rpm, withdraw oil dipstick
from guide tube and wipe it.
2.
Insert dipstick into guide tube up to the stop, withdraw after approx. 10 seconds. Check oil level on the
dipstick side marked "IDLE".
3.
Oil level must not be lower than the "add" mark.
4.
If necessary, top up to "max." mark (→ Page 97).
Checking engine oil level after the engine is stopped
1.
5 minutes after stopping the engine, remove oil dipstick from the guide tube and wipe it.
2.
Insert dipstick into guide tube up to the stop, withdraw after approx. 10 seconds. Check oil level on oil
dipstick side marked "5 Min. after Stop".
3.
Oil level must be between "add." and “max.” marks.
4.
If necessary, top up to "max." mark (→ Page 97).
5.
Insert oil dipstick into guide tube up to the stop.
