
7.8 Charge-Air Cooling
7.8.1 Intercooler – Checking condensate drain for water discharge and obstruction
DANGER
Unguarded rotating and moving engine components.

• Take special care when working on a running engine.

Engine noise above 85 dB (A).

• Wear ear protectors.

• Do not direct compressed-air jet at persons.
• Wear protective goggles / safety mask and ear protectors.
Intercooler – Checking conden-
sate drain for water discharge
and obstruction

With the engine running, check if air
emerges from drain bore(s) on the left and
right sides on engine driving end. If no air
emerges:

Clean drain bore(s) and blow out with com-
pressed air.
3.
If a large amount of coolant is continuously
discharged, the intercooler is leaking. Con-
tact Service.
Emergency measures prior to engine start with a leaking intercooler
1.
Remove injectors (→ Page 147).
2.
Bar engine manually (→ Page 133).
3.
Bar engine with starting system to blow out combustion chambers (→ Page 133).
4.
Install injectors (→ Page 147).
