7.15.4 Engine coolant – Draining
Preconditions
☑ Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
WARNING
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
• Let the engine cool down.
• Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
Preparatory steps
1.
Provide an appropriate container to collect the coolant or
2.
switch on the extraction device.
3.
Switch off preheating unit.
Engine coolant – Draining
1.
Turn breather valve on coolant expansion tank (→ Page 101)counterclockwise to the first stop and re‐
lease pressure.
2.
Continue to turn breather valve counterclockwise and remove.
3.
Draw off precipitated corrosion inhibitor oil from the expansion tank through filler neck.
4.
Open drain valves or drain plugs (→ Page 101) and drain or pump off coolant.
5.
Close all open drain points.
6.
Set breather valve onto filler neck and close it.
