4.1 Putting the engine into operation after extended out-of-
service periods (>3 months)
Preconditions
☑ Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
☑ MTU Fluids and Lubricants Specifications (A001061/..) are available.
Putting the engine into operation (out-of-service period > 3 months)

Check engine oil level (→ Page 94).
Fuel prefilter
Fill with fuel (→ Page 87).
Fuel prefilter, pressure

Align adjustable pointer with position of pressure indicator (→ Page 83).
Fuel system
Vent (→ Page 80).
Raw-water pump (if located
above waterline)
Prime (approx. 3 to 4 liters).
Filling point (→ Page 101).
Coolant circuit
If engine is out of service for more than one year, change engine coolant
(→ Page 107).
Coolant circuit
Check coolant level (→ Page 106).
Coolant circuit
Heat engine coolant with coolant preheating unit.
