7.5.1 Valve clearance – Check and adjustment
Preconditions
☑ Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
☑ Engine coolant temperature is max. 40 °C.
☑ Valves are closed.

Preparatory steps
1.
Remove air filter (→ Page 91).
2.
Remove cylinder head cover (→ Page 76).
Positioning A1 piston at TDC
1.
Remove cable from sensor B13 (→ Page 25).
2.
Remove sensor B13.
3.
Using ratchet and barring tool, rotate crankshaft in engine direction of rotation until the marking on the
flywheel is aligned with the center of the sensor seat.
Checking valve clearance at two crankshaft positions
1.
Check TDC position of piston in cylinder A1:
• If the rocker arms are unloaded on cylinder A1, the piston is in firing TDC.
• If the rocker arms are loaded on cylinder A1, the piston is in overlap TDC.
2.
Check valve clearance with cold engine:
• Inlet (E) = 0.3 mm;
• Exhaust (A) = 0.4 mm.
3.
Check all valve clearances at two crankshaft positions (firing TDC and overlap TDC) according to the
table below.
