1.11 Rollover stability of the vehicle
1 Introduction
1.11 Rollover stability of the vehicle
a
WARNING
Rollover stability is an important factor in the safety
design of a vehicle. The stability is affected by a wide
range of factors such as the vehicle configuration,
suspension, track width, tire width and tire pressure.
The load type and weight (payload), size, shape
and center of gravity height are also very important
factors. Modifications or the installation of additional
accessories on or in a Metris vehicle by an upfitter
or vehicle alterer can therefore affect the rollover
stability of the vehicle.
The Office of Vehicle Safety Research of the NHTSA
(National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
has carried out research in this area and developed
guidelines for improving rollover stability. Upfitters
should contact the office and/or view the website of
the NHTSA (www.nhtsa.gov) for further information.
