11.
To exit from this test Mode, push the SURGE button (item 19), which will
extinguish the green LED of the HV ON button (item 10). Both the SURGE
& PROOF/BURN test Mode pushbuttons’ Blue LEDs will light up,
indicating that the SELECT Mode switch is now unlocked and the user can
select among the 4 available test modes.
Surge Generation (Surge Impulse) - High Voltage Pinpoint Location
1.
Set the rotary (High) Voltage Control knob (item 12) to the “Zero Start”
position.
If the rotary High Voltage Control Knob (item 12) is not set to the “Zero
Start” position prior to pushing the HV ON pushbutton (item 10), a “Zero
Start” interlock error will occur causing the “ZERO START” interlock error
LED to be illuminated momentarily and the selected test mode will be
cancelled.
2.
Set the SELECT Voltage Range switch (item 14) to the desired “surge” range
either 16 or 32kV.
NOTE:
The position of the Voltage Range and Test Mode switches cannot be
changed while a particular test mode is activated (mechanical interlock).
3.
Set the SELECT (test) Mode knob (item 16) to the SURGE &
PROOF/BURN test group. Both buttons blue LEDs will illuminate,
indicating that either of these test modes are available.
4.
Push the SURGE test Mode pushbutton (item 19). The selection is
confirmed by the SURGE button’s Blue LED remaining illuminated, and the
PROOF / BURN button’s Blue LED extinguishing.
5.
Set the rotary SURGE TIMER CONTROL knob (item 13) to the desired
repetition rate between 1 and 15 seconds, typically 5 seconds.
6.
Push the HV ON button (item 10) and the selected impulse voltage is
applied to the cable under test at the rate set by the SURGE TIMER
CONTROL knob.
7.
Select the required voltage using the rotary (High) Voltage Control knob
(item 12). The selected voltage is displayed on the analogue D.C. Kilovolt
meter (item 22).
The fault is then pinpointed using an acoustic / magnetic combination
pinpointing unit like Megger’s Digiphone Plus.
8.
To turn HV off, push the HV OFF button (item 9), which will discharge the
entire test circuit. The HV OFF pushbutton’s Red LED will extinguish and
