HV-Return / Sheath / Concentric connection
Before undertaking this connection you should check to ensure that the cable
under test is Earthed/Grounded, if unable to do so it is dangerous to make any
connection to it.
The Sheath / Concentric connection of the HV Cable is connected to the
sheath/concentric neutral of the cable under test with the supplied clamp.
High Voltage Cable connection
Before undertaking this connection, check to ensure that the cable under test is
de-energized and earthed/grounded.
The HV core/conductor of the HV test lead is connected to the core/
conductor of the cable under test with suitable connectors.
Safety Zone
As High Voltages are present when undertaking cable testing, and cable fault
location, any area of potential danger needs to be cordoned off, to protect
people from possible “electrical shock”. This includes the cable terminations,
point of connection, and other areas of potential hazard.
Switching On
Once all connections incl. the AC line connection have been made and a safety
zone established, the SG32-1500M is automatically powered (white LED comes
on instantaneously if the emergency stop button was fully released before). The
white LED confirms that line power is present, but the PLC, which controls the
SG32 unit, is not energized. Upon pushing the lit white LED button again, the
PLC powers up and all LEDs will illuminate for a short period (self-check), but
no High Voltage is present or available until selected.
NOTE:
If the resistance in the loop formed by the safety ground lead, the HV
Return lead and the ground bus is exceeding 6 Ohms, the “CHECK
GROUNDS” LED will remain ON after the power-up self-check
has completed. The SG32-1500M will not allow the High Voltage
Power Supply to be engaged, until the ground resistance falls below the 6
Ohm threshold (F-OHM safety feature).
