3 Getting Started
Introduction
In this chapter, you are shown how to install your SR1202 enclosure into an industry standard 19
inch rack cabinet.

CAUTION
When connecting up the SR1202 enclosure, use only the power cords supplied or cords which match
the specification quoted in section “Power Cords” on page 24.
Planning Your Installation
Before you begin installation you should become familiar with the configuration requirements of your
SR1202 enclosure, detailed in Table 5. The correct positions of each of the optional plug-in modules
are shown in Figure 23. Please refer to sections “Fibre Channel Interface” to “Enclosures Expansions”
(page 31 to page 33) for details of SR1202 RAID Controller Module configurations.

Module
Location
Drive Bays
ALL drive bays must be fitted with a drive carrier module or dummy drive
carrier module; no bays should be left completely empty. A minimum of
two SES drives must be installed (Drive 1 and Drive 12 locations).
Power Supply Modules
Two Power Supply modules must be fitted. Full power redundancy is
provided while a faulty module is replaced. Install the Power Supply
modules in LH rear Bays (Figure 23)
Cooling Module
Install in rear bay, as shown in Figure 23
SR1202 RAID Controller
Module
1 or 2 SR1202 RAID Controller Modules are Installed horizontally (one
above the other) in the RH rear Bay (Figure 23), according to required
configuration.

CAUTION
Blank Modules or Dummy Carriers MUST be fitted to ALL unused bays, there will be inadequate
drive cooling if any are left open.
