Shopping Cart Adjustments
The Service release of Drumbeat eStore Builder includes a number of
enhancements in the Shopping Cart that enable various merchandising features.
These merchandising features are implemented via several new methods and
properties of the Shopping Cart API, along with associated contract described in
the document.
Merchandising features in the Drumbeat Shopping Cart can be broken into two
categories: line-item discounts and order-level adjustment (both discount and
fees). With order-level adjustments, discounts and/or fees are applied against the
total order without reference to individual products and the value of the
adjustment changes the raw order subtotal. With line-item adjustments, discounts
and/or fees are applied based on the individual product, or line item, in the
Shopping Cart without reference to the rest of the order. Further, the value of the
adjustment is added to or subtracted from the individual item's total, which are
ultimately reflected in the order subtotal. It is important to remember that the
Shopping Cart currently supports only discounts at the line-item level, while both
discounts and fees are supported at the order level.
For more general information on the distinction between line-item and order-
level adjustments, check out DrumNote_503, which contains a general discussion
of order-level adjustments, and DrumNote_506, which discussed line-item
discounts. DrumNotes 503 and 506 provide in depth, step-by-step examples of all
the various adjustments contracts.
