Linking Using HTTPS Protocol
If you want to assign links using HTTPS protocol, you will need to set up a web
server certificate. There are a number of vendors that provide digital certificates.
The most popular vendors are:
VeriSign: www.verisign.com
Thawte: www.thawte.com
You can go to their sites and apply for a digital certificate. If you are deploying the
site at an ISP, you should make sure they have a secure server. Then, you need to
set up the link in Drumbeat using HTTPS.
Assigning Links in Drumbeat Using HTTPS
You can assign links using HTTPS using the Link dialog. In the link dialog there
is a URL option. Here you can change the protocol from HTTP:// to HTTPS://.
Just enter the absolute URL (e.g., https://www.chocolatemaker.com) in the in the
URL string. You can use the shopping cart or any other SmartElement on the SSL
(Secure Socket Layer) protected page provided the page is employed on a secure
server. We highly recommend that you protect the check-out pages.
Security and Databases
Customer information saved in a database can be vulnerable to security attacks if
not protected properly. There are some security techniques you can use to make
sure the information is safe.
Databases saved in the wwwroot directory are vulnerable to hackers. Ask your
server administrator/ISP to save the database(s) elsewhere.
Add a user name and password to the database.
If you believe that the information is not safe on the server, add an encryption
key to the fields you want to protect in the database. There are many
encryption vendors out there.
