general information

Dimmers and switches

1.

2.

Install in accordance with all national and local

electrical codes.

3.

When there is no ground wire or way to connect

the wallbox, to ground within the wallbox the NEC

®

2005, Article 404-9 allows a dimmer /switch without a
grounding connection to be installed as a replacement
(as long as a plastic, noncombustible wallplate is
used). For this type of installation, cap or remove the
green ground wire on the dimmer / switch, and use an
appropriate wallplate (such as Lutron’s Fassada

®

series wallplates).

4.

Do not paint dimmers / switches or wallplates.

5.

Cleaning Instructions: Clean with a soft, damp

cloth only. Do not use any chemical cleaners.

6.

Dimmers / switches may not work with dioded light
bulbs (Sylvania Designer 16

TM

 or Philips PAR-16

TM

).

7.

Operate system in temperatures between
0 °C (32 °F) and 40 °C (104 °F).

8.

Dimmer / switch may feel warm to the touch
during operation. This is normal.

9.

Recommended wallbox depth is 2 1/2” minimum.

10.

When combining dimmers / switches in the same
wallbox (multi-ganged), the dimmer’s / switch’s load
capacity must be reduced.

11. Neutral Connections (AuroRa

®

 Switches

only):

In most but not all cases, the neutral wire

in the wallbox will be an insulated white wire.
The neutral connection is typically a bundle of
2 or more wires. The neutral wire(s) will

not

 be

connected to the original switch. When you have
identified the neutral connection and the power is
turned off use the white wire included with your

AuroRa

system to connect neutral to the silver

screw on the

AuroRa

 switch.

NOTE:

AuroRa

 dimmers do not require a

connection to neutral.

See Important Safety Information (p. 2).

To avoid overheating or possible damage to
dimmer / switch or other equipment follow the
load capacities in table below for multi-ganged
dimmers / switches.
