ROUBLESHOOTING

This section provides troubleshooting instructions in four parts: (1) general
recommendations, (2) hardware issues, (3) problems in the Operating
Room (OR) and (4) problems at patient follow-up visits.
10.1.
General Recommendations
10.1.1.
Non-responsive Handheld Computer
If the handheld computer becomes non-responsive to user input, you may
perform the following steps to perform a hard reset of the handheld to
resolve the problem.
1. Plug in the handheld computer into the A/C outlet.
2. Verify that the FlashCard is fully seated in the handheld computer. For
Dell x50 handheld computers, verify also that the Screen Lock button on
the side of the handheld is not set.

3. Press the
reset
and the
power
buttons simultaneously for at least 5
seconds.
4. When prompted, follow on-screen instructions to clear all data in the
memory.
Note:
This operation only clears the data in the temporary memory
of the handheld device and does NOT affect the VNS patient/
programming data.
5. If prompted. follow the on-screen messages to tap cross-hair targets to
realign the screen, tap the box labeled
Next
, and perform an exercise that
shows you how to highlight, cut, and paste using the stylus. As these
instructions are completed, the application software will reinstall and
restore your transaction database.
Note:
In some of the handheld computer models, the on-screen
instructions may not be displayed or may be interrupted prior to its
completion; however, the application will reinstall correctly. Refer to
Section “Restore and reinstall software” on page 62.
6. As soon as the software and database are restored, a Cyberonics screen
will appear. Check the time and date on the screen under "Cyberonics". If
this is not correct, select
Set Time
and follow the prompts to reset the date
and time. If this is correct, tap
Continue
to access the MAIN Menu.
