Slitlamp Delivery Unit (Integrated model)
Integrated Slitlamp LDU Beam Paths
For this LDU (Laser Delivery Unit) the Laser beams are connected to the unit by way
of the Optical Fiber and then the beams are adjusted inside the Zoom Housing by a
series of Optical elements so as to adjust the Spot size at the focal plane from 50
microns to 1000 microns.
The Zoom Housing is fixed into the Microscope Housing using a bayonet system so
that it is easy to remove for assembly and packing and in case of any service
adjustments or repairs. To remove from the Microscope just rotate the Zoom
Housing in an anti-clockwise direction 90° and lift out of the housing.
Inside the Microscope housing is a large mirror that reflects the output beam from
the Zoom Housing into the Objective lens where it is then focused to the focal plane.
This mirror is connected to a mechanical linkage that is called the Micromanipulator.
The Micromanipulator joystick is located directly below the Binoculars and enables
the doctor to adjust the position of the Laser beam within the field of view of the
microscope.
The objective lens has a focal length of 107mm.
The output beam from the Zoom assembly has the largest beam diameter at the
smallest Spot size setting and the beam has the smallest diameter at the largest spot
size setting. At the smallest spot size the beam covers the full diameter of the mirror
inside the Microscope housing.
It can be seen that this mirror has 2 clear apertures for the viewing optical path from
the Binoculars. The mirror has a high reflective coating to reflect both the Treatment
Green beam and the Aiming Red beam.
