heatsink. The heatsink is in turn cooled by fans mounted to the back panel of the
Console. The TEC maintains a steady temperature on the LD to /-1°C. The
nominal temperature is around 25°C but this temperature is tuned at the factory
in order to achieve the best output power performance.
The wavelength of the LD is 808nm and this is invisible to the human eye so
extreme caution is required when using this LD. The LD current is adjusted by the
CPU to maintain a constant output power according to the preset power on the
Remote Control unit. The threshold current required for Lasing is around 10
Amps and the maximum current limit is set at 30 Amps although typically the
current is maintained at less than 27 Amps.
The LD is an ESD sensitive device and this means that no service is to be
performed to this part in the field. Never disconnect any of the cables from the
LD as this may cause irreparable damage to the internal parts.
Special care should also be observed not to damage the Fiber cable that
connects the LD to the Laser Cavity. Any damage that occurs to this cable will
reduce the transfer of power to the cavity and may result in accelerated damage
when the Laser is fired into the fiber.
4.
Laser Diode (635 to 650nm)
This laser diode is just acting as the source for the secondary wavelength of this
particular system. It ranges from 635 to 650nm wavelength. The current is
maintained at less than 2 Amps for protecting the 670nm Laser Diode. The max
output power is limited to less than 1W.
