The RIPS battery is an internal part of the RIPS. When installing or removing the
RIPS it is also the same as installing and removing the RIPS battery. The RIPS bat-
tery cannot be removed and replaced from the RIPS.
The CVDR may or may not be delivered or installed with the RIPS connected. To in-
stall the RIPS, take the following steps as illustrated in Figure 707.
(1)
Ensure that the CVDR is not powered.
(2)
Remove protection cap from the RIPS connector.
(3)
Remove protection cap for the CVDR connector.
(4)
Line up the Rips in the most rearward position while aligning the RIPS in the
guide slots of the CVDR.
(5)
Slide the rips forward within the guides until the connectors engage and the
RIPS face is flush with the CVDR.
(6)
Use a screw driver to turn the RIPS screw clockwise to fully seat the RIPS.
(7)
Perform a return-to-service test on the recorder in accordance with Section 100
of this CMM.
NOTE:
The RIPS unit should provide sufficient holdup time after the
first application of power for at least 15 minutes. Once charged,
the battery should remain sufficiently charged for at least 1 year
without application of power to the recorder (when operated
within this requirement, no monitoring is required.) The RIPS
battery is an on-demand maintenance item, and required main-
tenance will be indicated over the recorder’s ARINC 429 OMS.
NOTE:
No regular maintenance is required.
