Install Underwater Locator Beacon
(See Figure 706 and IPL Figure 1, Item 155A/B)
The Underwater Locator Beacon is mounted on the Model FA5000’s CSMU front
bracket with the beacon’s water switch facing to the left (refer to 706, 1–155). The
expected battery life of this Beacon is the same as the replacement date on the Bea-
con.
A new replacement beacon may be ordered, if needed, directly from Aviation Re-
corders.
If converting from a 30
−
day ULB to a 90-day ULB, the L-3AR ULB Conversion Kit,
PN: 068E5542-00 must be used. This kit contains the 90-day ULB and the attaching
hex mounting screws. Converted CVDR units must be marked with Hardware
MOD-DOT #3 on the FA5000CVDR Nameplate. Refer to FA5000 SB004 for more
details.
NOTE:
When replacing the 30
−
day ULB it is recommended that
new mounting hex screws (1-150), MS 16995-54 (L-3AR
P/N: 2290200424), are used to ensure a secure
connection to the CSMU.
When replacing the 90-day ULB it is REQUIRED that four
new mounting hex screws (1-150), MS 16995-54 (L-3AR
P/N: 2290200424), are used to secure the ULB brackets
to the CSMU.
Once a unit has been changed to a 90-day ULB, it
cannot revert back to a 30-day ULB due to the Hardware
MOD-DOT marking.
1.
If installing the 90-day beacon kit, open the kit and ensure that all the parts are
included:
A.
90-Day Beacon (1
−
155)
B.

−
20 hex-cap screws (1-150)
NOTE:
The #8 flat head countersunk screws (4), MS 24671-13
(L-3AR P/N: 2290200398), and #8 lock washers (4), MS
35336-17 (L-3AR P/N: 933533617), are not used for the
FA5000 Series of recorders and may be discarded.
(1)

mount bracket (1-145) with the beacon water switch facing left and replacement
